ARMOND SMITH - Former NFL Player & Business Owner - asmith@rivergatorsfootball.com
Armond Smith (born May 7, 1986) is a former American football running back whose journey from small town Kentucky to the professional gridiron is defined by explosive plays, tenacity, and no shortage of drama.

Smith honed his skills at Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky, where he starred for the Bulldogs. Though Union is a modest program compared with Division I powerhouses, Smith’s combination of speed and vision made him standout between the tackles. His performances on the small college stage put him on the radar of NFL scouts, even if he ultimately went undrafted.

Undeterred by draft-day disappointment, Smith signed with the Cleveland Browns as a free agent in 2011. He grabbed national attention in a preseason matchup against the Detroit Lions, breaking free on an electrifying 81 yard touchdown run that showcased his breakaway speed and balance. Though he battled for roster spots throughout camp, that highlight splash was a reminder that he could deliver game changing plays when given a chance.

After his stint with Cleveland, Smith resurfaced in Carolina, joining the Panthers’ roster in 2013 for a short stint.

On October 14, 2014, Smith signed a practice roster agreement with the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts. Though he brought the same physical running style that had defined his American pro-opportunities, roster churn in Toronto led to his release on November 11, 2014, effectively closing the chapter on his professional playing career. Throughout his journey from Union College underdog to making headlines in NFL preseasons and chasing opportunities in Canada, Armond Smith embodied the relentless pursuit of a dream. While his pro career may not have followed a conventional arc, moments like the 81 yard sprint in Cleveland remain emblematic of a player who refused to be overlooked.

Armond is married to Danielle Smith. They have four (4) children Armond, Jr (17), Loriel (15), Alex (3) and Diesel (2). He currently lives in Stone Mountain, Georgia.
